Cyclic Neutropenia

Description: Also called Grey Collie Syndrome, this is a recessive inherited blood disorder in which there are recurring periods of very low blood levels of neutrophils or white blood cells in the body. These white blood cells fight off infections by eliminating bacteria that penetrates in the body. The low levels of neutrophils result in frequent infections.
Symptoms: Some symptoms include fever, ulcers in the mouth, frequent infections and feeling ill.
Treatment: Currently there is no cure, but lots of medical attention may prolong the animal's life 1-2 years.
