Whether you're looking to get a new puppy or have a 10 year old cat, you're undoubtedly worried about their health. Because there are so many different breeds of dogs and cats available, there are many different types of associated pet health problems.
If you're looking to get a new pet, the pet health problem section is a good starting point. You can get a good idea of what health conditions that the breed you're interested in may be more prone to, as well as associated costs so that you're not surprised later down the road. Keep in mind, that this section is purely educational and actual conditions and illnesses by breed could vary. Even if we don't list a certain breed as prone to a given condition, this doesn't mean they couldn't develop it later on. And on the other end of the spectrum, just because we list a certain breed as prone to a given condition, doesn't mean that they will develop it.
Trupanion's pet health concern section was created to educate pet owners about common illnesses to both dogs and cats, as well as more rare illnesses and conditions that may be more prone to one breed over another.
If you go to the vet and they rattle off some big words as to what may be going on with your pet, the pet health problem drop down menu is a great starting point to give you further information, including typical costs to treat the condtion.
