Description: Protein Losing Enteropathy - A non-specific term referring to dramatic loss of protein in the gastrointestinal tract. Maybe caused by gastrointestinal cancer, foreign bodies, parasites, fungal infections, viral or bacterial infections, or allergies.

What to Watch For: Affected animals will experience weight loss and muscle wasting. May also exhibit signs related to the underlying cause.

Treatment: Treatment depends on the specific underlying cause(s). It may include diet changes, medication, steroid therapy, or surgery.
