Irritable Bowel Syndrome

Description: Irritable (or inflammatory) bowel syndrome (IBS) is a condition of chronic inflammation in the small or large intestine. This causes the body's normal digestive functions to become irregular and typically painful and uncomfortable for the pet. IBS may be related to stress, food allergies, infection, or parasites.

What to Watch For: Signs include constipation, diarrhea, bloating, abdominal pain, gas, and irregular bowel movements.

Treatment: Treatment may require anti-inflammatory medication. Often times, adjusting the animal to a proper and regular diet specific to its needs will help.
